Top Politicians To Watch On Substack in 2026
This Substack list includes Gavin Newsom, Pete Buttigieg, Kamala Harris, US Senators, members of Congress, including Nancy Pelosi and Speaker Mike Johnson.
We started to work on this list in February this year. Since then, the list of politicians and politicos on Substack has grown and is continuing to grow.
Our list below is updated to November 10, 2025.
2028 presidential contenders like Gavin Newsom, Pete Buttigieg, have joined Substack. House Speaker Mike Johnson and former Speakers Nancy Pelosi, John Boehner, Newt Gingrich are also on the platforms, as are 34 US Senators, over 30 members of Congress, and 5 Governors.
Often, these politicians are active, posting, and re-posting. In some instances, they have only set a placeholder on the platform or appear inactive.
When Kamala Harris joined Substack — the only former Vice President on this list — in September 2025, the company’s co-founder and CEO Chris Best welcomed her on the platform with a simple Note: Welcome!
Former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and former First Ladies Michelle Obama, Laura Bush, and Hillary Clinton are to join Substack in 2026 for a project for America 250.
In early February 2025, Substack co-founder Hamish McKenzie pointed out on Notes: “There has been a massive surge in support and audience for independent publishers on Substack as people try to make sense of the political upheaval in the US.”
Back in September, we interviewed Catherine Valentine, Substack’s Head of News and Politics. She knows newsrooms and Washington’s halls of power inside out and she’s leading Substack’s revolution in this space, thanks to the visionary leadership of the platform’s co-founders Chris, Hamish, and Jairaj Sethi.
We asked Catherine about our list of politicos and politicians on Substack: What makes Substack the perfect platform for them?
“Your list of politicos is an incredibly valuable resource,” Catherine responded.
She added that “subscribers appreciate longform, expertise, deeper discussions and a more meaningful participation in policy. That makes Substack the perfect platform for them.”
Help us! Leave a comment below if you know of other politicians using Substack or if you have suggestions on how to make this list better, more complete, or if we need to correct mistakes.
And Substack is not just a growing tool for politics, but also for diplomacy and foreign policy:
List of politicians on Substack
* Hear us out: this is not a ranking and it’s not a perfect list. It includes current and former elected officials at the national and state level, as well as political appointees at the White House or other departments and agencies.
